Cleaning For Covid-19

cleaning+for+covid+19+blog.jpg

In the last blog, I discussed the importance of the certifications and cleaning procedures that would provide our clients with the cleanest and healthiest workplaces possible.  As COVID-19 began spreading around the world, this issue became even more important.  The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) encouraged all businesses to re-evaluate their cleaning practices and made some suggestions.

A good professional cleaning company will ensure that they keep on top of industry news and heed advice given by the experts.  We will incorporate any and all measures necessary to provide top notch service to our clients.  This also means sharing important information.  Below I have listed some cleaning practices that can be incorporated into every day cleaning to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

  • Practice The One-Way Wipe Down - Contrary to the way we usually clean, wiping down a surface in a circular or back-and-forth direction redeposits the germs you just wiped up. Instead, wipe down commonly touched surfaces such as desks, doorknobs, workstations, and countertops in one direction, and don't go back over it in the opposite direction.

  • Create A Colour-Coded Cleaning Solution - To keep towels used in cleaning surfaces from ending up in the office kitchen, try colour-coding your towels and cloths for specific spaces. Having a different colour for towels from each specific area keeps cross contamination at bay.

  • Clean Your Cell Phone -  One study by Dscout reported that we touch our cellphones on average 2,000 times a day. Germs thrive on tech devices, so cleaning them off with some regularity is a best virus protection habit.

  • Post Hand Washing Warnings - As obvious as it may seem, post hand washing signs in offices that remind employees to wash with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds (as long as it takes to sing the Happy Birthday song). Outside of the bathroom, the CDC says employees can wash their hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent to 95 percent alcohol. Also points out that it's important to thoroughly dry hands since germs spread with moisture.

  • Don’t Just Spray and Walk Away - Most common household disinfectants claim to kill 99.9 percent of bacteria and viruses, including human coronavirus, flu strains, E. coli, and salmonella, among others. But whether they will work against this new coronavirus is as of yet undetermined. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says these disinfectants are "thought" to be effective against the new coronavirus strain, but until tests confirm it, consider it an open question.

If you are worried about how your company is combatting COVID-19 and would like us to work with you to ensure that best practices are being followed, I encourage you to reach out.  By assessing your workplace and laying out a cleaning process that is as unique as you are, we can work together to keep the risk of COVID-19 as low as possible.  You don’t have to go this alone.  We truly are in this together!
