Dirt After The Rain

Have you ever wondered why windows can look dirty after a rain?  One would think that the rain would make windows cleaner, but that is not always the case.  Although rainwater itself is virtually distilled water and very clean, there are many factors that can affect it and leave dirt behind when the rain has stopped.

One reason dirt can be left behind is screening.  If your business facility has windows that open, you may have screens on them. While screens prevent dirt, pollen and other unwanted substances from damaging windows, as rain passes through them, it grabs the debris and smashes it up against the glass.  As the water dries, it sticks to the window and leaves the dirt behind.

Another reason windows can get dirty after a rain is the environment. Depending on where your facility is located, the local environment can play a factor.  For example, if your facility is located in an industrial neighbourhood, acid rain could be a problem.  Acid rain contains high levels of hydrogen ions and has a low pH and is caused by emissions of sulfer dioxide and nitrogen oxide which react with the water molecules in the atmosphere to produce acids.  In an area where large amounts of carbon dioxide or other chemicals is being released, it can be a huge problem. Not only will it leave your windows dirty but it has harmful effects on plants and aquatic animals.

As with other cleaning challenges that businesses face, cleaning windows isn’t as easy as it sounds.  A professional cleaner will decide the product and process needed for cleaning your windows based on the two factors mentioned above as well as many other factors.  For you as the business owner, knowing that this process is being done properly can bring you peace of mind.

Next, we can’t talk about rain without talking about entrance matting.  Wet shoes and boots can quickly make shiny, clean floors look muddy and messy.  By ensuring that you have the proper entrance matting, you can reduce the effects of this dramatically.  Good entrance matting can hold a tremendous amount of water and moisture that can be easily cleaned with the proper wet vac equipment.  Although this matting is not inexpensive, it is worth the investment.  It will help reduce damage to flooring and save on cleaning costs.

A professional cleaning company will be able to help you deal with the side effects of rain.  They should also be able to make suggestions that will help mitigate future problems and save you money in the long run.  At Wright Cleaning Services Inc. we pride ourselves on looking after our customers in this manner.  We aren’t just here to clean, we are here to help!
